About this site

Mangrove is a reef along the mangrove-lined northern coast of Nusa Lembongan, near Nusa Penida in Bali. It is dived as an easy drift between about 5 and 25 m (16 to 82 ft) and is one of the prettiest dives in the area.

Strong currents along the shore and nutrient-rich runoff keep the reef thriving. Huge colonies of branching and plate acroporas, bommies of massive and encrusting coral, and fields of soft coral cover the bottom. Shoals of fish, sea turtles, Napoleon wrasse, blue lobsters and nudibranchs are all seen here.

The current can be strong, and at one point it carries divers out to sea, which the guide covers in the briefing. The site is shallow enough that you can stay above 20 m (66 ft) for the whole dive. Snorkellers also work the shallows, so boat traffic can be busy, and you should stay with your group.
