Mayhem is a large submerged pinnacle on the western edge of the Dampier Strait in Raja Ampat, just offshore from the island of Gam.
The best time to dive it is when a little current is running, which brings large schools of fish together at the edge of the reef. The current can be very strong, so time the entry carefully. The ideal dive drops in along the edge of the pinnacle on the current side and watches the schools in the flow, then swims along the bommies toward the shallows.
Fusiliers, snappers, jacks and batfish gather in numbers, and wobbegongs and pygmy seahorses live on the bottom. The bommies are covered in coloured corals, and some hold schools of sweepers in small caverns, often with a resident wobbegong sitting underneath.
