The Pit lies in the Caribbean Sea off Saint James Parish, near Montego Bay on Jamaica's north coast, rather than off Treasure Beach as previously noted. Divers here have reported a mix of coral types, including finger coral, lettuce coral, lobed star coral, mountainous star coral, and mustard hill coral, forming a varied reef structure. Fish life reported includes Atlantic blue tang, yellowtail damselfish, and several parrotfish species such as redband, stoplight, and striped parrotfish. The site draws on the reef systems typical of Montego Bay's coastline, with small dive boats operating out of the area.
