About this site
Shaab Claude is an offshore reef dive site in the Red Sea near Safaga, Egypt. A round reef rises from the bottom at a depth of 10 metres, with coral gardens extending to the east and west before running down a slope. A ridge projects southward while the bottom descends to around 15–18 metres, and the site reaches a maximum depth of approximately 24 metres.
The southern end of the reef tops features an overhang holding a large gorgonian, where longnose hawkfish can be spotted by attentive divers. Schools of butterflyfish and sweetlips gather around the reef, particularly at the split point, while the coral gardens and reef top are populated by triggerfish, parrotfish, surgeonfish, and unicornfish. The site is also noted for big fish encounters.
Shaab Claude is a boat dive, suitable for all certification levels including beginners.
