Shaab Sharm is an offshore reef southeast of Marsa Alam, in the Wadi Gimal protectorate, with steep drop-offs and vertical walls that fall to 100 m and beyond. Dives are made from motor boats, at depths of 10 to 40 m, and it is rated advanced.
The walls are covered in soft corals, gorgonians and black corals. Strong currents make it a good drift dive. A plateau at around 20 to 25 m holds coral bommies full of life.
Schools of barracuda, trevally and tuna gather here, and reef sharks and eagle rays are regular. Hammerheads are occasional visitors, and turtles, dolphins and long-winged sharks are also reported. Water temperature is around 29 C.
