Silver Steps is an easy shore dive at Pendennis Head in Falmouth, Cornwall, and is one of the most popular spots in Falmouth. To reach it, follow the signs to Pendennis Point, go past the car park on the point and park in the large lay-by on your left; the car park can be busy in summer. An easy path to the left of the car park leads to steps onto a small rocky beach, so carrying gear is reasonably easy.
The site is often used for training, with no current and depths of less than 12 m, approximately up to 8 m (26 ft). High water is highly recommended. Local shallow-water species are all present, and it is a good spot for cuttlefish. Seahorses have been reported here in summer.
The broken, salvaged remains of the German First World War U-boats UB112, UB86, UB97, UB128 and UB106 are scattered across the site, and a small steam tug, The Alice, lies a little further out on the sand. Diving around wrecks calls for experienced divers or someone who knows them. Between UB86 and UB97 a narrow, scenic gully with a small cave at the end runs very shallow.
