Stavros is the dive area off Cape Stavros, on the north coast of central Crete near Fodele, about 25 km west of Heraklion. At the tip of the cape stands the church of Agios Sozon, at the northernmost point of central Crete.
The terrain is deep and open. The depth increases up to 80 m very fast, with deep blue water and visibility that is often more than 40 m. Dives are guided to a maximum of 42 m.
Groupers, snappers, morays and amberjacks live here. It is a special dive for experienced divers with a deep diving certification.
The bays around the cape are well protected from the wind by Cape Stavros and have very clear water. The nearby El Greco Cave and Blue Cave are separate dives in the same area.
