Tanjung Sari is a rocky reef at the southern end of Blue Lagoon, along the cape that separates the lagoon from Padang Bai harbour. A protruding reef top with bizarre volcanic rock formations slopes gently down to about 30 m, where it ends in a sandy bottom. The usual route stays at about 15 to 18 m, and you start at one of two buoys, one at 5 m and one at 18 m.
The site is exposed to tidal current, which brings in schooling fish. Reef sharks patrol the area, and eagle rays, Napoleon wrasse and tuna are regular visitors, with the Mola mola in season. Wobbegongs can be found in the dry season from May to September, when the water is cooler. The return to Blue Lagoon is easier through a labyrinth of rocky channels that shelter you from the current.
On the reef, sweetlips hang over the hard coral and scorpionfish sit in the sand. A large patch of staghorn coral often hides stonefish and moray eels, and crocodilefish are found in the soft pink coral. A big triangular bommie shelters whitetip reef sharks. Take care with the stonefish and scorpionfish.
