The Leap is an advanced shore drift dive at Kurnell on Sydney's Botany Bay, in New South Wales. You enter with a giant stride, then follow a wall that descends to about 22 metres, with a maximum depth of 21.5 metres, past boulders, overhangs and some memorable swim-throughs.
It can have excellent visibility and large schools of fish. Wobbegongs, giant cuttlefish and weedy seadragons are seen, with the seadragons found near the exit at the Steps, and seahorses and several species of rays are also found here.
Timing matters. The best conditions are on an incoming tide near high. The site calls for careful assessment of the conditions and appropriate confidence, so it is not for newer divers.
