Tiger Beach is a dive site located 30 miles off the coast of the Bahamas, renowned for encounters with six species of shark in open water. The site is rated advanced difficulty, and divers should be fully aware before entering that the primary draw — and primary hazard — is diving in close proximity to apex predators. The best season runs from December through April, and the site is accessible by either a land-based trip or liveaboard.
Tiger Beach's shark population is the defining feature of the site, with Tiger Sharks (for which the location is named), Great Hammerheads, Bull Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Nurse Sharks, and Caribbean Reef Sharks all present in these waters. Additional marine life includes eagle rays, barracuda, arrow crabs, coral shrimps, sea anemones, tangs, and octopuses. Visibility conditions are great, and the site is relatively protected, though strong currents are a known hazard along with boat traffic.
The site suits advanced divers who are highly comfortable in the water and experienced around large marine predators. Divers bringing their own gear and possessing a solid level of water confidence will be best prepared for the conditions here.
