UB-78 is a German WWI submarine wreck lying off Dover. She was a UB III coastal torpedo attack boat, built in Hamburg, and was lost in April 1918 with all 35 men aboard, most likely after hitting a mine while heading out through the Dover Barrage.
The bow points south-west and the stern is missing. Divers dive down to around 28 metres, where the deck gun and conning tower stand out of the gloom, and the bow and decking sit just below. A conger has been seen lurking inside a net cutter on the sand near the bow.
Water temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius. Visibility can be dark with no ambient light, and on a good day reaches 4 to 5 metres. The wreck is a protected place, so it is look, do not touch and do not penetrate.
