Union Express is a wreck off Pompano Beach. She was a Dutch coastal freighter, 170 feet (52 metres) long, built in Germany in 1959, and she worked for a time in the Northern Sea before carrying food and supplies around the Caribbean and down the South American coast.
Federal agents seized the ship in 1990 for drug smuggling, and in 1992 she was sunk as part of the Broward County Artificial Reef Program.
The wreck lies on her port side, broken in two pieces and facing north, in 80 to 108 feet (24 to 33 metres) of water. She is part of the Wreck Graveyard, where seven wrecks sit within 1,000 feet (300 metres) of each other, and the Mariner II barge lies just offshore to the east north east, within swimming distance. Large schools of fish, followed by large pelagics, swim between the wrecks.
