Verde Island is a dive site in the waters around Verde Island near Puerto Galera, Philippines, recognised as sitting within what is described as the "centre of marine biodiversity in the world" — an area said to hold more fish species than anywhere else on Earth, including the Caribbean and the Great Barrier Reef. It consistently ranks among the top ten rated dive sites in the Philippines according to the Philippines Center of Tourism and PADI.
The reef runs from 18 m (60 ft) at its shallowest to a maximum of 30 m (98 ft), with a bottom type of reef. The site is reached by a roughly one-hour boat trip from Puerto Galera.
Verde Island supports a rich range of marine life, including batfish, emperors, surgeons, tuna, whitetip sharks, blacktip sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, sea turtles, and hard corals. Visibility is great, making photography rewarding across the site.
Strong currents run at the site, particularly at channel-facing points where down currents can also be encountered. These conditions make Verde Island a technically demanding dive best suited to experienced divers comfortable with strong current exposure.
