5 Caves

5 Caves is a shore-dive site named for the five actual underwater caves that form its main feature. Entry involves navigating surf to reach a rocky beach, and the exit can be demanding — when surf is running, divers may need to crawl out onto the rocks before being able to stand. The caves themselves are not long, extending roughly 150 to 300 feet (45 to 90 metres) in length.

The site reaches a maximum depth of 8.2 metres, with a gravel bottom. The difficulty rating is advanced, reflecting the challenging shore entry and exit through surf rather than depth alone.

Giant turtles are the headline residents, living inside the caves themselves — at least one cave passage can be partially blocked by a turtle, requiring divers to manoeuvre carefully to pass through. Visibility at this site is generally poor.
