Barracuda Reef, known locally as Ula Gala, is a reef just outside Colombo in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka, and the most famous of the diving spots around the city. Depths run from 3 to 12 metres over a rock bottom, visibility is good, and the dive is rated beginner. The shallow range suits snorkellers as well as divers, and it works as a first open water training dive.
Large groupers, oriental sweetlips, trevally and yellow jack are seen here along with plenty of other fish. Part of the wreckage of the ship Asia Carrier, which ran aground in 1980, can also be seen on the site.
