Bear Cove, commonly called the New Bear Cove, lies at the end of a small walking trail off Ketch Harbour Road in Nova Scotia. There is a small parking lot, then a walk of about 328 feet (100 metres) to the water. The trail is in an active park, so be mindful of other users. The site is suitable for novice to experienced divers.
A wreck sits at the site at around 65 feet (19.8 metres). Some have debated whether it is the Humboldt, a paddle steamer that ran aground on shoals near Sambro Island on 5 December 1853, after twelve days out of Southampton in fierce weather. The captain refloated her but eventually had to ground her in Portuguese Cove. Only one life was lost.
Watch for rocks, surge, lobster traps, fishing buoys and boat traffic, and dive at slack high tide. The site is open to the elements.
