About this site
Booby Rock is a wall dive in the channel off Salt Pond Bay on the south shore of St John, in the US Virgin Islands. It is rated intermediate, with visibility listed as great.
The rock lies about 150 yards (140 metres) from shore. You reach the bay by a 10-minute walk from the Salt Pond trailhead, then swim out to the rock, where the wall feels like a shallow dive.
Barracuda, permit and the occasional reef shark patrol the drop-off, and tarpon are also listed here. The bay itself has sea grass turtle grounds closer to shore.

Go only when the seas are calm, because the channel gets choppy fast. Boats do transit the passage, so a dive flag is worth bringing.
