Breaking Patches is a shallow reef dive off Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef. Hard and soft corals cover the site in strong colour, with sea fans, staghorn coral, tree coral and black coral all present. Natural overhangs and swim-throughs break up the reef.
Clownfish, parrotfish, angelfish, lionfish and butterflyfish move through the coral, and Christmas tree worms and anemones sit among it. Sea cucumbers work across the sandy bottom. Green and hawksbill turtles are sometimes seen swimming past.
