Careless Reef lies in the Red Sea off the Egyptian coast, a pinnacle formation rising from the seabed and typically reached by boat from nearby coastal towns. It reaches a maximum depth of around 40 metres and is rated an advanced dive due to strong, at times unpredictable current, which also makes its exposed position a real factor to plan around. The reef holds barracuda and tuna, and divers have also reported bannerfish, eagle rays, grouper, hammerhead sharks, moray eels, Napoleon wrasse, nudibranchs, octopus, and trevally around it. Crown of thorns starfish have been noted on the reef as well.
