The Chippewa is a wreck dive off Panama City Beach, Florida. She is a WWII tug boat of more than 200 feet (60 metres), lying at about 102 feet (31 metres) on the bottom, and she is rated advanced.
She is counted among the notable offshore dives in the area, alongside the USS Accokeek and the Hathaway and Dupont bridge spans. Offshore dives here are those more than 8 miles from St Andrew's Pass.
Because of the depths and the open water, these sites require advanced certification, and nitrox certification is a good idea. Trips do not run every day because of the distances involved, so plan the dive around the available runs, and remember that the nearest hyperbaric chamber in Florida is in Fort Myers.
