Close Encounters is a steep slope and drop-off in Pemuteran Bay, Bali, with splendid coral gardens at 3 to 5 m that also suit snorkeling. The name comes from the fact that something always turns up. The dive runs from 5 to 30 m and is open to all levels.
Visibility ranges from 8 to 30 m, water temperature is 27 to 29 C, and the currents are typically gentle. Occasional big animals include eagle rays, whale sharks and reef sharks, and schools of tuna, jacks, fusiliers and snappers pass through. Smaller residents include cleaner shrimp, leaf scorpionfish, mantis shrimp, nudibranchs and barrel sponge crabs.
