Colombia Shallows is a shallow reef dive located in the turquoise water opposite Colombia Lagoon on the western side of Cozumel, Mexico. The site features coral heads rising 10 to 30 feet (3 to 9 metres) from a sandy floor in a protected, bay-like setting, with a maximum depth of around 10 metres (30 feet).
The reef holds large schools of snappers and most species of tropical fish found in Cozumel, and the site is particularly known for its turtles, which are famously tolerant of divers. Many divers return to Colombia Shallows repeatedly across a week of diving.
Conditions at Colombia Shallows are consistently mild. Currents tend to be gentle compared to more exposed sites on the island, making this one of the most relaxed dives in Cozumel. Visibility is excellent, typically running 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30 metres) and reaching 100 to 150 feet (30 to 45 metres) on clear days. The site is well suited to beginners and Open Water certified divers who are new to drift diving or want a low-stress dive.
