Deer Island is a snorkeling and diving destination located off Mazatlan, Mexico, reached only by boat as there is no shore access to the site. The island has its own beach where visitors can swim and relax between time in the water.
The entry is by boat from the Marina Center, with a short ride out to the island. No mooring or drift details are described for the site; once at the island, divers and snorkelers are largely independent in the water.
The waters around Deer Island hold colorful tropical fish and other marine life. Visibility can change quickly, which is a general characteristic of Mazatlan's snorkeling sites. Water temperature ranges from 20–24°C (68–76°F), cooler in winter and warmer in summer.
The site suits all ages and experience levels, including non-swimmers using life jackets for snorkeling, and is rated as a beginner-level destination. Biodegradable sunscreen is recommended. Scuba diving is also available at the same location alongside snorkeling.
