Ebb Carrs is a reef south east of St Abbs harbour, cut by scenic gullies. It is best known for the wreck of the SS Alfred Earlandsen, a small Norwegian steamship that ran onto the reef on 2 October 1907 in thick fog, with the loss of all her crew. The only survivor was a Great Dane dog, which apparently managed to swim ashore.
What remains of the wreck is scattered through the gullies. Divers can find the propeller and other wreck debris, and the ship's boiler lies in a main gully on the reef, which can be hard to locate when searching around the reef.
Conditions change with the tide. On one dive at the start of a flooding spring tide, visibility was around 3 m at best, with what looked like a green algal bloom in the water, although everyone still had a good dive. The site is rated beginner, with light current and good visibility recorded as typical, and a maximum depth of 30 m.
