Eel Garden is a reef garden dive in Dahab, Egypt, with depths of 0 to 30 metres. It is one of Dahab's most colourful sites. You walk over the reef table for about 5 minutes and enter a narrow lagoon to start the dive. Entry and exit can be challenging in wind and waves.
The shallow lagoon is a colourful start, with lots of lionfish and, depending on the season, glassfish. After leaving the lagoon you cross a bright white sandy slope that looks like a ski slope against the dark blue sea, with eels in places. Longhorn cowfish and blue-spotted rays are often found, along with other Red Sea species. You then follow the ascending reef line back, and the shallow reef at the safety stop sparkles with colour. This is where most of the eels live, which gives the site its name. They are shy and disappear into the sand, so keep your distance. Watch out for fire coral.
