About this site

Emerald Reef is made up of three shallow patch reefs about 1 mile east of Key Biscayne, off Miami. Many people consider it the best reef in Miami for its water clarity and colour.

Elkhorn and pillar coral grow here, and the reef carries many sponges. Sergeant majors, blue tangs, parrotfish and damselfish are all around, with damselfish especially common. Anemones, stingrays and nurse sharks are also seen, along with moray eels and lobster.
