Flinders Reef is a small isolated reef near Moreton Island, 5 km north-west of Cape Moreton in South East Queensland, Australia. It has the highest number of coral species of any sub-tropical reef system along the Australian east coast, and it is one of Queensland's most popular dive sites. The reef is protected within the Moreton Bay Marine Park and is monitored by the Reef Check conservation program.
More than 175 fish species live here, and there are more species and varieties of coral than on any other single reef on the Great Barrier Reef. Schools of wrasse, sweetlip, trevally, parrotfish, batfish and surgeonfish are common, along with turtles and tropical fish. Manta rays, wobbegongs and leopard sharks are among the larger residents. Whaler sharks are sometimes seen on the eastern side of the reef.
Humpback whales can be seen on the surface as they pass by from June to September. The water is clear, and the diving is easy, with a maximum depth of about 18 m. A torch is recommended.
