Ghar Lapsi is a shore dive in Siggiewi on the south-west coast of Malta, one of the few places on the west coast where you can enter the water from the shore. It is a shallow, scenic reef dive, and also a pretty place above water with cliffs and rock formations.
Entry and exit are tricky because of steep steps down to the water's edge. The dive starts or ends with a stunning shallow tunnel at 3 m to 6 m. The tunnel is around 40 m long, with 6 exit points that let light into the passage. The caves can get narrow in places, so good trim and buoyancy control are a must. A second, lesser-known cavern lies roughly a 20-minute swim to the left of the main entrance.
Once out of the tunnel you come along the reef, and within 10 m there is a large, clean sand patch where stingrays, flying gurnards, octopuses, cuttlefish and many small critters can be found. A crib, a collection of life-size wooden figures resembling a nativity scene, left in memorial, sits at 22 m underneath a mini overhang on the finger reef.
