HMS Stubborn is a British S-class submarine from World War II lying approximately 3 km north-east of Qawra Point, Malta. The 66 m long, 7 m wide vessel served during WWII and was deliberately scuttled by the Royal Navy on 30 April 1946 to serve as a sonar training target for other submarines.
The wreck rests upright and largely intact on a sandy bottom, tilted slightly to starboard, with a maximum depth of around 55–56 m and the conning tower sitting at approximately 50 m. The submarine is essentially a time capsule on the seafloor, with encrusting organisms covering the metal hull.
Conger eels and spider crabs are regularly found around the hull. The depth and conditions place this firmly in technical diving territory, requiring mixed-gas capability and significant experience; it is accessible to tech divers only.
This is a boat dive, with the site reached by vessel from the Qawra Point area.
