La Iglesia is one of the outside reefs off Cancun, Mexico, along with Punta Negra, San Miguel, La Herradura, Grampin, El Tunel, San Toribio and Cuevas de Afuera. These reefs lie about 40 minutes by boat from the dock and are usually dived as a second dive after the wrecks.
Depths are 15 to 18 m (50 to 60 ft), with a maximum of about 18 m. The bottom is reef, and visibility is good.
Currents are mild to strong, so the site is aimed at certified divers. Water temperature is 75 to 77°F (24 to 25°C) in winter and 80 to 82°F (27 to 28°C) in summer. Wave conditions depend on the day but are usually calm.
The outside reefs are known for rays, moray eels, turtles, nurse sharks and schools of colourful fish.
