Inner Reef is a wall dive off Atauro Island in Timor-Leste, one of the best known dives in the island's clear blue water. A deep wall covered mostly with hard corals runs from about 5 m down to 50 m, and the verified maximum depth is 50 m. The wall is rated technical at its deepest, though the usual dive profile is 5 to 40 m.
How it is dived. This is a slow drift dive. The site has great visibility and a big diversity of reef fish along the wall. Snorkelling is possible here as well as scuba.
Reef sharks are often seen cruising around, along with a school of barracuda and Napoleon wrasse. On a lucky day divers also see tuna, Spanish mackerel and turtles.
The required skill level is Open Water Diver, with the profile kept within 40 m. A wide-angle lens suits the big wall and the larger fish that pass.
