Kewalo Pipe is a reef site off the south shore of Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, built up around a former storm-drain overflow pipe that is no longer connected to the street drainage system; the pipe's presence has contributed to coral reef growth along both sides of it, and the surrounding reef now supports a high concentration of aquatic life.
The site's layout makes navigation straightforward: divers simply follow the pipe down to its end at a maximum depth of 60 feet (about 18 metres), with the reef spreading out on either side of it along the bottom, which is classified as reef.
Kewalo Pipe is well regarded for the chance to spot the elusive dragon eel, and the reef holds an abundance of aquatic life that makes it a popular choice for underwater photography; visibility on good days in this part of Honolulu's south shore can reach up to 100 feet (30 metres).
Boats depart from Kewalos Basin Harbor, near the Ala Moana Mall, and all dives in the area are less than 20 minutes from the coast. The shallow maximum depth of 60 feet and easy navigation along the pipe place this site within reach of beginner and non-certified divers.
