La Source is a reef off Pointe des Pêcheurs in Puna'auia, Tahiti, named for a freshwater spring that emerges from the seabed at 8 metres. The spring creates a visible halocline, the shimmering boundary between fresh and salt water.
The reef descends from the surface to between 20 and 40 metres. Green and hawksbill turtles rest among the corals in good numbers, and schools of fusiliers and paddle perch pass through, along with whitetip reef sharks and occasionally a nurse shark. Visibility is great and the current is light.
The reef can be snorkelled as well as dived.
