Lighthouse is a shallow dive in one of the most protected bays off Malapascua, at depths of 5 to 10 metres. By day it works well for training dives, but the site comes into its own at sunset.
A colony of mandarinfish lives in the staghorn coral and emerges at dusk to mate, rising in pairs into the water. The activity is strongest around the full moon but can be seen on almost any night, and the first twenty minutes or so of the dive are usually spent watching it. Seahorses live among the hard coral branches, and after dark a wide variety of shrimp, crabs and cephalopods appear, including bobtail squid, starry night octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish and blue-ringed octopus.
