Maheleg is a quiet, sheltered bay in the Marsa Alam area on Egypt's Red Sea coast. You enter from a pontoon, and it can also be dived from a boat. There is a shallow plateau to the north and coral blocks to the south, and the depth goes beyond 40 metres.
From the pontoon, divers follow a gentle sandy path to either the shallow plateau, which is good for training and skills, or a route south where coral columns shelter reef fish, rays and moray eels. Visibility is excellent. Because the bay is sheltered from wind and waves, it is one of the area's most reliable sites and is often used when conditions elsewhere are challenging, which makes it a comfortable dive for learners and beginners.
