Mewstone, listed as Mewstone Ledges, is a large reef area to explore, a ten-minute RIB ride south of Plymouth and centred around 50°18.10 N, 4°6.28 W.
The dive is technical and reaches 40 metres. Tide matters here: dive around high water slack, entering the water about half an hour before high water, because tidal currents are strong on spring tides and shipping traffic uses the area. The seabed carries sea anemones, feather stars, Mermaid's glove sponge, antenna hydroids, purple jewel anemones and pink sea fans.
