Napoleon Reef is an offshore reef site located in the Laguna area known as the 'Spit', south of Dahab, Egypt. Its name comes from the Napoleon fish (Napoleon Wrasse) that frequent the area; the site's remoteness and low visitor numbers allow these fish to swim freely and reproduce undisturbed. The reef is best reached by boat or zodiac, as it lies approximately 450 metres from the beach, with access from Gabr El-Bint in south Dahab.
The reef's centrepiece is a large Madrepore (hard coral) tower that rises from a sandy seabed at around 20 metres depth and is separated from a half-submerged reef by a channel. The surrounding terrain forms a natural lagoon with a descending slope, keeping the maximum depth to around 20 metres. The site is rated suitable for beginner divers.
Marine life at Napoleon Reef includes Napoleonfish (Napoleon Wrasse), nudibranchs, seahorses, and a variety of other micro marine life on largely unspoiled reefs. The low dive traffic at the site contributes to its undisturbed character.
Napoleon Reef functions as a drift dive on windy days, with generally good drifting conditions when the wind is blowing. The site is not diveable in a southerly wind. Entry is by boat or zodiac due to the distance from shore.
