Northwest Point

Northwest Point is a wall dive, about a 40-minute boat ride out. The wall drops from 35 feet (10 m) down to a ledge at around 100 to 120 feet (30 to 40 m), then falls away to more than 6,000 feet (2,000 m).

The limestone has produced swim-throughs, crevices and large monoliths of rock hanging off the wall. Plate and brain corals now cover it and give a habitat to schooling fish and varied reef creatures.

The wall is split into named dives. Two Steps is a sandy plateau at 120 feet (40 m) with Nassau groupers and amberjacks. Shark Hotel is a deep swim-through on a sheer wall, named for the breeding nurse sharks. Amphitheatre is a large recess hung with whip corals and sponges, where horse-eye jacks circle. Chimney is a vertical swim-through from 40 to 80 feet (12 to 24 m) that exits into open blue water.
