Pixie Pinnacle is a small isolated bommie on the Ribbon Reefs of the Great Barrier Reef. It rises from thirty metres to just below the surface, so divers get a cross-section of reef environments as they spiral up it.
The pinnacle is draped in soft corals and heaving with fish. Schools of barracuda and trevally gather around it, and anthias, nudibranchs, pipefish, lionfish, mantis shrimp, stonefish and octopus turn up among the corals. Look for the flame file clam, which flashes a pulsing light along its mantle.
The pinnacle can get strong currents on certain tides.
