Ras Katy is a reef at Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt, a few hundred metres west of Temple. It lies in a bay that is protected from wind and swell, so conditions are calm and it is a good place to learn to dive.
Coral pinnacles rise from a sandy plateau at 5 m to 18 m (16 to 59 ft), where the drop-off begins. The main pinnacle sits about 30 m from the main reef and goes from the surface to 18 m, with a drop-off nearby that descends to 70 m. Following the drop-off to the southeast leads to a ridge at about 22 m (72 ft) with large gorgonians. Hard coral is in good condition, especially fire coral, and the site can also be done as a drift dive.
Countless anthias and many species of butterflyfish gather along the drop-off. Glassfish and lionfish live in caves and crevices, and crocodilefish, blue-spotted stingrays, scorpionfish and triggerfish sit on the sand. Fusiliers, clownfish, pipefish and large Napoleon wrasse circle the pinnacle, and the ridge is usually busy with red-toothed triggerfish, bannerfish and often tuna.
