Rock Point West sits at the southern tip of Apo Island, presenting a steep coral slope that begins at around 5–7 m and runs down to approximately 30 m, with the most rewarding zone lying between 5 m and 18 m. The shallower sections are draped in healthy soft corals that shelter a range of macro life, while the deeper reaches transition to large hard corals and sponges.
The reef's soft corals host frogfish, nudibranchs, and flatworms, while the slope and wall attract large schools of trevally, snapper, and grouper. Hawksbill turtles are regular visitors, and sea snakes and fire clam shells are also encountered in the 5–18 m band. Juvenile sweetlips have been noted among the coral formations.
Current occurs at times and can push in either direction along the slope, though it is generally manageable by going with the flow; divers should carry an inflatable signal buoy. Conditions are generally good visibility over a reef bottom, and the site is rated intermediate in difficulty with a maximum depth of around 29–30 m.
