Swanne Reef is a shallow, rocky reef in the San Lorenzo Channel, between La Paz and the Espiritu Santo archipelago in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The maximum depth is about 12 m, and the crown of the reef rises to just below the surface, so it works for snorkelers as well as divers. It is about 50 minutes by boat from La Paz and is open to all levels.
California sea lions often visit to hunt, diving through schools of fish before surfacing to rest and float. The reef also carries spotted-tailed grunts, Mexican goatfish, nudibranchs, moray eels and coral heads, with cormorants overhead.
The site is exposed, and tidal currents run at certain times, so dive at slack tide.
