The Temple is a massive sea cave in the south-eastern wall off Moon Island. More than half of the cave mouth is partly blocked by a coral-encrusted rock known as the altar, and beyond it the cave runs back into a very dark zone.
During the salmon run, sharks shelter around the cave and in the darkness inside it. Pomfreds, bullseyes and pike surround the cave all the time, and kingfish, other pelagics and big wobbegong are also common.
A short swim away is the Horseshoe Cave, a U-shaped overhang with some of the best delicate coral growth anywhere around the island. There are plenty of other holes and caves to explore to the east of the Temple, and the dive reaches 20 metres.
