Witte Leeuw is a Dutch East India Company shipwreck located near Saint Helena island, lost in 1613, making it one of the oldest of the island's seven notable wreck sites. It lies in the vicinity of the RFA Darkdale, another historic wreck in the same waters.
The waters around Saint Helena offer great visibility, and the best conditions for diving the site run from January through June.
Saint Helena's waters are home to over 78 recorded marine species, at least 50 of them endemic to the island. Divers in the area regularly encounter the Saint Helena butterflyfish, flounder, pufferfish, white seabream, and wrasse, along with Chilean devil rays, dolphins, sea turtles, and large pelagic species. From mid-January through April, whale sharks aggregate in these waters, with January and February offering the strongest chances of encounters.
