2 Mile Reef is the most popular and most often dived reef section at Sodwana Bay, South Africa. It is about 2 km long and 1 km wide, with some 30 dive spots, and it is so large that it has never been fully dived. Depths run from about 13 to 32 m, with the whole reef from 9 m to 35 m, and the layout takes in walls, pinnacles, gullies and caves.
Sharks, rays, nudibranchs, schooling fish, dolphins, shrimps, paperfish, potato bass, manta rays, octopus, sponge corals, anemones, whip corals and turtles are all recorded. Because the reef sits in a protected bay it can be dived in most weather, and it suits both students and advanced divers. Water temperature is 20 to 28°C.
