Aristos is a wreck in the English Channel, 15 nautical miles due south of Brighton, on the edge of the west bound shipping lane. The Greek cargo vessel was built in 1937 and weighed 5,189 tons. She sank after a collision with the vessel Linde on 28 August 1967, when both ships were 16 nautical miles off Beachy Head in dense fog. She was carrying unspecified general cargo.
The wreck rests in a maximum of 60 m, with the top of the bridge at 42 m. She sits bolt upright and is very intact. The bow is impressive, and both admiralty anchors still hang in place. The stern mast stands up to 36 m, while the front mast lies across the wreck. Dropping over the back at the stern shows the stern gear still in place.
Penetration: the collision left a large split in the side at the engine room, and it is possible to enter the wreck through this opening. Take care and run a line, as things silt up quickly. On the bridge deck you can swim along the companionways and through the cabins, then enter the bridge through large windows.
This is a technical dive, best done when the visibility is good inshore.
