Bar Reef lies about two kilometres offshore from Kalpitiya on the northwest coast of Sri Lanka. It is the largest coral reef in the country and also its largest protected marine area.
More than 150 species of coral and over 280 species of fish have been recorded here. The shallow sections of the reef can be reached by snorkellers and novice divers, and the dive season runs mainly from October to May.
