About this site
Bear's Den is a moored reef dive off Roatan, Honduras, with several levels and deep crevices to explore. Just below where the mooring buoy attaches to the reef is a swim-through. Drop into the sandy crevice at 12 m (40 ft) and follow it out to the reef wall, where the swim-through exits at 18 m (60 ft) above a sheer drop.
The wall continues down past 30 m (100 ft) to a sandy bottom. Heading east along it you reach a large coral outcropping at 24 m (80 ft), with fine examples of leaf coral throughout. West of the buoy the layout is more open, at 15 m (50 ft), with sand patches and coral colonies. In the shallows there are several caverns that look like places where a bear might sleep, and one of them, the Bear's Den itself, gives the site its name.
