About this site
Fitzroy Island is a reef and rainforest island about 45 minutes' travel from Cairns, with calm waters, beaches and natural areas to explore. As a dive it is a beginner site reaching around 12 metres, and the depth changes with the tide.
A strong tidal flow runs through the area, and the lagoon entrance is tricky, with a narrow inverted S channel and reef ledges. The water is protected and sits at 26 to 29°C.
Divers have reported green sea turtles, black-tipped, grey and whitetip reef sharks, rays, clownfish, parrotfish, trevally, spangled emperors and sweetlips.
