Grouper Bend

Grouper Bend is a reef about three quarters of a mile offshore, south of Hillsboro Inlet, off Pompano Beach in Florida. It is dived as a reef or drift dive and is listed as suitable for Open Water divers, with a maximum depth of 27.4 m.

Reef structure: the top of the third reef lies at roughly 45 to 50 feet (14 to 15 m). A western-facing ledge drops to 65 to 72 feet (20 to 22 m) on the sand, and a secondary false ledge just west of the main ledge adds extra structure and relief. To the east the reef slopes gradually out to 80 to 90 feet (24 to 27 m) along its outer edge.

The ledge holds lobsters and sport fish such as grouper, snapper and mutton snapper. Grouper are only occasionally seen, and are believed to move between this reef and the wrecks to the east. Eels, turtles, tropical fish and a variety of hard and soft corals also live here.
